Stray Dogs' Care

Stray Dogs' Care

Volunteers will help to walk the dogs and take some photos. They will post pictures, along with the attitude and behavior of the dogs that have a chance to be adopted on social media, and hope someone can adopt them. Dogs that are not in good condition will be given as many resources as possible. The volunteers will also promote the shelter to get more support for the dogs’ health. However, each dog can be provided with only a limited amount of money. If the funds run out, they cannot receive any more, which is a serious problem that cannot be ignored. So every time a dog is sick, the volunteers are confused about whether it is worth spending money on their care.

The woman in the picture is playing with the dog, and the man is taking pictures of them, in order to post them on social media, and let more people know about their existence.

This is a area that people can play with stray dogs, facilitate the relationship of human and dogs, make adoption more widely, and more easily to practice.

Dogs are being cared for much better now than they used to be. Formerly, some shelters used to offer the dogs their basic needs, like food, shelter, and kerosene lamps to keep warm. But there were too many dogs, so it was very easy for them to die, the chance of death was very high. Until now, volunteers have come, and the notions of animal protection have become more widespread; some people have helped to popularize the idea, which has increased the chance of adoption. Also, the shelters’ layouts have become more common and perfect, including areas for dogs-humans interaction, and spaces for larger dogs to walk around. These facilities make it easier for the dogs to be seen.

At first, the process of caring for the sick dogs was very sloppy. Some dogs that have serious illnesses are euthanized. This can save limited resources, give these resources to the dogs with better chances, and focus on their needs. Later, this terrible system was changed. The shelter began to cooperate with some animal hospitals and volunteers. This kind of plan will make the structure more organized. Some volunteers work as a team, while some work independently; it depends on their skills, their situation, and the task at the hand. The benefits of teamwork are that volunteers can divide tasks like cleaning, fundraising, or animals care; this can make the shelter operate faster, more safely, and more successfully. Independent work is more suitable for volunteers who can handle the cases flexibly; it suits those in remote areas, who have a lot of free time, and limited strength. The application process for independent work in Taiwan is very simple; it often requires just an email or an online form, without a paper contract. But not everyone who do independent survival can be very relax and comfortable, it may waste many energy and time to take care of the dogs. There is a shelter in Taiwan runs by only a woman in Taichung Taiping. At first, she just sheltered two dogs, but later she realized that there were too many animals need help, so she sold her house and all-consuming passion with take caring of the animals. She spends over 100,000 per month on this work, but many adopted dogs are often returned, it makes the woman very melancholy. The number of volunteers do not reached ten for a long time, so manpower and supplies were limited, but the shelter contain about 200 stray dogs, it is actually very exhausting to the woman.

This is one of a survival team that help stray dogs that named Lang Lang Gou Yuan, they help dogs to find a home, and speak up for them.
